Some of the candidates for City of Melbourne lord mayor have outlined their policies and priorities for the 24 October election, which is being held by postal vote. Incumbent Sally Capp suggests holding a festival of women’s sport would revive the city’s fortunes in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, while Deputy Mayor Arron Wood wants to see renewal of the currently derelict Central Pier at Docklands. Labor Party candidate Phil Reed has called for empty office and rental space to be filled by industries such as textiles, while Roy Morgan executive chairman Gary Morgan says the Airport Rail Link should be built as soon as possible while the City of Melbourne should work to bring more Australian and overseas company headquarters to the city.
